MY HOME STEREO
by Jacques Sax
January 1999
The approach to the HiFi system
can be viewed in several ways and the home HiFi system can be designed
in several ways, with an infinity of components available.
My
concern is for my system to be as simple as possible, with a completely
neutral sound, transparent, without any colorations in order to respect
the original form of the music I want to listen to, be it
classical, jazz, vocal, rock, etc..
To achieve this, I
have a standard CD player available in the market with a digital output
connected to the SONOSAX SX-DA2 digital to analog converter, with the
monitoring output of the converter connected straight to a pair of
SONOSAX JM-3A active monitor speakers.
The result is a
totally clear sound without any distortion (see the distortion curve of
the SONOSAX JM-3A). With this quality of sound, a professional musician
can feel the difference between a Steinway or a Bösendorfer piano for
instance, and another piano.
The absence of gimmicks like an
equalizer and effects is important to keep the habit of listening to a
neutral sound, and to listen to music, not technic!
I can also use the SONOSAX JM-3A to choose and subjectively check some circuits like converters and amplifier stage.
And, an aspect not to be neglected : all of these need a minimum of space, and require only one level control!
